Understanding the Kadian® Program
Methadone is a long-acting opioid medication that reduces cravings and prevents withdrawal symptoms. When taken at the right dose, it helps you function normally without producing a high.
Kadian® provides consistent, all-day symptom control with once-daily dosing. It is a helpful option for patients who have not responded well to other medications.
You may experience some initial drowsiness or nausea. Once on a stable dose, most patients feel comfortable and able to function normally.
It is taken once daily as an oral capsule, usually dispensed under clinical supervision at the clinic.
Common side effects include nausea, constipation, drowsiness, and sweating. These typically improve over time with dose adjustments.
Yes. As with all opioid-based treatments, interactions are possible. Inform your care team of all medications and substances you use.
Duration is individualized. Your care team will work with you to determine the right length of treatment based on your progress.
Kadian® is typically recommended for patients who have not achieved stability on methadone or Suboxone®, or who experience significant side effects with those medications.
Carry privileges may be available as your treatment progresses and stability is demonstrated. Your physician will make this determination.
Kadian® is safe when taken as prescribed and monitored by your clinical team. Unsupervised use or combining with other substances increases risk.
