Our Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Programs
Opioid Detox
What is an Outpatient Opioid Detox?
Road to Recovery is an outpatient opioid detoxification center, with locations across Ontario. Our focus is on providing the best medication-assisted treatment and support services to address the issues specific to opiate addiction and associated problems (cocaine use disorder and mental illness). We also offer treatment for smoking cessation and alcohol use disorder.
Our opioid detoxification program is based on an outpatient service in which the patient attends the clinic for necessary monitoring and treatment anywhere from twice a week initially up to once a month once fully stabilized. Urine samples may be required between visits.
Detoxification is defined as relieving the withdrawal effects of a drug of dependency while the patient suddenly or gradually stops the drug.
When the physical strongholds of addiction result in serious withdrawal symptoms that are too painful for an individual to cope with on their own, outpatient drug detox can provide a unique level of support and care that is suitable for most patients choosing this path. Outpatient drug detox can help individuals safely detox from opioids and prepare for acceptance into long term recovery.
During this process of outpatient detox, various medications can be prescribed to help relieve the physical and psychological effects of withdrawal. Based on your Road To Recovery Doctors can prescribe either methadone, Kadian®, Suboxone® or Sublocade® to help the patient reduce or stop the use of opioids.
What makes us different
The staff at every Road to Recovery clinic are chosen very carefully with special attention paid to their ability to express professional compassion and deliver the highest quality of care.
We believe addiction is a disease, and each patient should be treated just as you would if being treated for any other life-threatening disease.
We employ virtual medicine by using Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN), thereby improving efficiency, and reducing barriers to receiving timely care.
Road to Recovery Health Clinics employs a safer, more effective medication management system called PRESCRIBE-IT™ funded by Health Canada. This allows for seamless integration with our existing electronic medical records (EMR) protecting and maintaining an influence-free dispensing & prescribing environment.
Our Treatment Method
Opioid agonist therapy (OAT) is an effective treatment for addiction to opioids such as heroin, oxycodone, hydromorphone, fentanyl, and Percocet. This condition is formally referred to as Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Opioid agonist therapy involves taking opioids such as methadone, Kadian®, Suboxone® or Sublocade® which will help prevent withdrawal symptoms and reduce drug cravings. Those addicted to opioid drugs can take OAT to help stabilize their lives and to reduce the harms related to their drug use.
Our Programs
At Road To Recovery, we advocate for the rights of opioid users and help to treat associated challenges like cravings and withdrawal. Our goal is to medically treat patients with controlled doses of Methadone, Suboxone® & Kadian®. We have a qualified team of medical professionals to identify any mental health issues affecting opioid users. This allows for quick referrals to supporting healthcare professionals, like counsellors, psychiatrists, and social centres.
Methadone Treatment Program
Typically, the Methadone program also supports you with counselling, social work, and family therapy. Long-term clinical studies have shown not only the benefits of this type of treatment but also the affordability of this program.
Suboxone® Treatment Program
Suboxone® contains buprenorphine which is often prescribed by doctors because it is safer, has fewer side effects, and takes less time to reach the correct dosage. It allows you to lead a balanced life while on the road to recovery.
Kadian® Treatment Program
Kadian is another option to consider when you have not benefited from Suboxone® or Methadone Treatment. Kadian® is a relatively new approach to severe opioid addiction and is only prescribed by experienced doctors and specialists.
Alcohol Addiction Treatment Program
Therapy and counselling is the first-line treatment for alcohol addiction. Types of treatment include individual, couples, family, and group sessions. You will most probably start with an individual session. Your one-on-one session with a therapist or counsellor will include education about possible symptoms, social skills training and treatment planning. The physician will discuss medications that are most appropriate to your situation.
Mental Health Services
Half of patients who struggle with addiction could potentially be diagnosed with a mental health disorder. That’s why it’s important to incorporate therapy and counselling into addiction recovery treatments.
Smoking Cessation
The Cessation Program is a safe and effective way to stop smoking. Our medical experts will advise on which therapy is best for you. Therapy options include Non-prescription Nicotine Replacement Therapy and Prescription Drug Therapy.
